Jake’s RTSC workshop was chock full of valuable and applicable information that was very well supported with convenient sessions that were manageable with my busy schedule. His work is original and is a great addition to any organization development toolkit. I got a lot out of the sessions and highly recommend them.
—Liza Taylor, MSOD - Kaiser Permanente
Jake is an energetic and engaging presenter. His energy level and enthusiasm is out of this world! The course had an excellent mix of theoretical and applied information. Time was spent explaining his model and paradigm integrated with case examples and sharing of real life experiences. The learning was well supported by the wealth of articles, tools and discussion all made readily available through the online Conversation Café. I would highly recommend this practicum.
—Joel Shapiro, LICSW - Director of Human Resource Organizational Services, University of Vermont
The RTSC course is one of the most informative, dynamic, relevant and rewarding learning opportunities I have participated in. Jake has the ability to simplify complex material and communicate it in a manner that is appreciated by all levels of expertise. What I thought was an impossible timeline to develop and successfully implement a people strategy for my organization, I soon discovered it wasn’t. Thanks Jake!
—Kathy Troy - Manager Human Resources Development, The City of Barrie, Ontario
The RTSC Practicum gives you lots of opportunity to learn new things about how to plan and lead change. Jake’s generosity, and the wealth of knowledge and practical tools that he shares during sessions and in between really enhanced my own learning, and the effect of the program.

Real Time Strategic Change [RTSC], as featured in The Change Handbook and the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Collaborative Change, is a proven approach for whole systems, teams and individuals to achieve fast and lasting results. The messier and more challenging the situation, the more RTSC can help.
Running the risk of becoming one of the 70% of change efforts that fall short of their desired results? Are you on track but things are not moving fast enough? Concerned that even if you succeed in creating change, it won’t stick over time? If any of these are your concerns, Real Time Strategic Change is your answer.
The aim of this 6 session interactive virtual training series is to enable you to create fast and lasting change on a current project – and learn how to do it again in any situation. Throughout these roll up the sleeves working sessions we’ll apply RTSC to a real project of yours - one where getting things done better, faster, easier and with lasting results are the goals. Each session includes a practical tool that will support you in doing good RTSC work now and in the future. See a detailed description of the course format here.
With a 20-year track record of success in many organizations supporting a wide variety of efforts, RTSC has been used by:
AT&T to become competitive after deregulation.
The Home Depot to help the front line become customer friendly.
TJ Maxx to support their growth strategy of rapid expansion into Europe.
Stanley Black & Decker executives to become a real team and break down silos.
Adams Street Publishing for executive coaching.
Corporate Rate: US$490
Professional/Non-Profit Rate: US$290
Student Rate: US$190
Any kind of project is fine to bring to the Practicum. RTSC makes a positive difference equally well in no matter how many people are involved. It also “plays well” with other approaches, making it a turbo-charger for methods that already form the core of your work.
The Introductory Session’s Theme: Making Informed Decisions.
We’ll tackle a fast cycle RTSC application in this introductory session to help you decide if the Practicum will be a good investment for you. We’ll cover the history and evolution of this powerful approach, how the Practicum works, and add value to a live change project you bring to the session. We’ll close the session introducing the Practicum Decision Making Tool – strategic questions to help you think through the tradeoffs of signing up for the Practicum.
Session 1’s Theme: Hitting the Ground Running in Your RTSC Work
Connection before content is a core element of Real Time Strategic Change. Relationships matter. Creating a vibrant learning community will help everyone do their best work. This first session we’ll get connected as a learning community, be introduced to the Real Time Strategic Change principles, and come to understand the fundamental assumptions, or mantras, of RTSC. We’ll then translate these mantras and principles to your project “RTSC-izing” your current work. The principles are at the heart of all RTSC work. They are fixed and non-negotiable – their predictable structure makes it possible to flexibly apply RTSC to any scope, scale, focus, or kind of change.
Session 2’s Theme: Scoping Your Project’s Possibilities
Scoping Possibilities, the first of three areas of RTSC work, is getting clear about the work you need to do for your project to succeed. It includes both looking at all the potential results and paths forward to living your future now and focusing on the vital few outcomes that will make the biggest difference and the roadmap that will get you there.
Session 3’s Theme: Developing and Aligning Your Project’s Leaders
Leaders in an RTSC effort are those needed to provide the leadership for the work to succeed. Beyond that guideline, there are no hard and fast rules to identifying these key players. They include people from the hierarchy and informal leaders – the number doesn’t matter, as long they are the right people to get the job done well. Once identified, they need to learn how to lead the organization into its preferred future and develop the skills, knowledge and experiences to make that happen. These leaders also need to align around the results to be achieved, their roles in doing so, and what they need from others. Who are these people for your effort and what work do you need to do with them?
Session 4’s Theme: Creating System-Wide Congruence
Whether you are working with an individual, team or an entire organization, system-wide congruence is the key to sustainability. Congruence needs to be based on the needs and desired results of each situation. For one it might be meeting financial targets, for another creating a culture of accountability and support, and for yet a third increasing the number of innovative products and services. Think of congruence as putting together a three-dimensional puzzle with each piece locking into multiple others. Systems, processes, structures, culture and strategy have to fit with and reinforce each other to meet the RTSC definition of congruence.
Session 5’s Theme: Assessing, Learning From and Leveraging Your Work Using the RTSC Principles
The latest Real Time Strategic Change innovation is the ability to assess how well an organization is leveraging the RTSC principles. When we finish this session you’ll be confident about how to introduce the assessment to your client, clear about the steps you’ll follow to complete it, how it works, and when it will add value in other parts of your practice. In this session you’ll gain insight into the your client’ responses to the assessment and prepare to confidently feed back their results to them. We’ll review common response patterns and how you an support your clients in improving how well they’re leveraging the principles to create their preferred futures, faster and more sustainably.
Session 6’s Theme: Embedding Better Ways of Doing Business in Your Daily Work.
Daily work is the most sustainable part of all organizations. This has been true since the first organization was born and will be till the last one exists. Sustaining gains made over time has been a bugaboo of most change efforts. In the select few where real progress is made, “Teflon” change often allows individuals, teams and organizations to slide back to business as usual. RTSC’s goals are fast and lasting change so we look for every opportunity to make change work real work and real work change work. When they become one and the same, sustainability becomes a given, not a challenge and sometimes-fatal flaw. What are the most valuable lessons you’re learned in the Practicum that will make the biggest difference for you and your clients? In this session we’ll create accountability and support structures that make it easy to integrate Real Time Strategic Change into your daily work. Together we’ll look for and identify ways to “ RTSC-ize” your work at any scope and scale, be it individual coaching, team development or large-scale change.
We look forward to your joining this practicum series on Real Time Strategic Change. If you’re working with a team on your project, bring the whole group. Accelerated, sustainable results are our target. Ease and joy are goals too. Six sessions. How are we going to do it? Do Real Work and Achieve Real Results, in Real Time. Consider this a personal invitation from me to further enhance the good work you’re already doing.
ABOUT The Faculty: Jake Jacobs is the inventor of Real Time Strategic Change. RTSC is a set of principles and practices that enable people and organizations to create their preferred futures faster and more sustainably. Jake has been told he has a “relentless dissatisfaction” with his current practice. He prefers to frame this truth around his natural curiosity about why some organizations work and others don’t. A pragmatist at heart, Jake would like “It worked” on the top of his tombstone.
