COVID-19 and Collaboration: Some Ideas

— Transforming Organizations, Revitalizing Communities and Developing Human Potential

On Saturday, March 7th, a group of collaboration fanatics, change practitioners, health care expert, and consultants gathered to try out and discuss the latest in collaborative change. We designed that Saturday engagement on the previous Friday evening with Ron Lippitt’s 3 Questions.

We began our Saturday with three rounds of Impromptu Networking - that adapted the Mad-Sad-Glad technique:

  1. What scared you when it comes to the Coronavirus?

  2. What are are you sad or angry about with COVID-19?

  3. What are you glad about regarding the Coronavirus?

We then used Preferred Futuring [thanks for the excellent resource Deb] to look at some of the ideas and concerned expressed: We imagined to be meeting again a year into the future on March 7, 2021. The coronavirus pandemic has successfully been eradicated. What are the things we did to get here? What did we learn? What were the innovations, new ideas that made a difference in dealing with COVID-19?

This mindset and approach resulted in rich ideas around how and what affected us as families, organizations, communities and countries. We then worked to express some of those insights through Applied Improvisation. It was encouraging and inspiring to see some of the things we can come up with when we try an appreciative, forward-looking mindset and bring that learning to the table in what feels like a most chaotic week!
